The Lelant Village Produce Association (LVPA) is a long-established community organisation in Lelant, Cornwall, dedicated to encouraging gardening, horticulture, home crafts and traditional rural skills. Its flagship event is the Annual Summer Show (often referred to as the Annual Fayre or Produce Show), traditionally held at Lelant Village Hall during the summer. The show welcomes exhibitors of all ages and features competitive classes including:

  • Flowers and floral arrangements
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Home baking and preserves
  • Handicrafts
  • Photography
  • Art
  • Children’s classes

Visitors can enjoy displays of local produce, homemade cakes, refreshments, plant sales, craft stalls and a raffle, making it a classic Cornish village event.

The Crafty Warm Space at Gwithian Church (St Gothian) is a welcoming weekly community gathering where people can enjoy a warm, friendly environment while working on crafts, meeting others and sharing refreshments.

What to expect

  • Every Friday
  • 1:00pm – 3:00pm
  • Free soup and light refreshments
  • Bring your own knitting, sewing, crochet, painting or other craft project, or join in with one of the small workshops.
  • No booking required – simply turn up and enjoy the company and a warm welcome.

The Crafty Warm Space is part of the community outreach organised by the Godrevy Team Ministry, which serves Gwithian, Hayle, Phillack, Gwinear and St Erth. The church aims to provide a relaxed space where people can make friends, share skills, reduce isolation and enjoy a hot drink and homemade soup during the afternoon. This is a lovely example of a modern “Warm Space” initiative—combining creativity, companionship and hospitality in one of Cornwall’s most picturesque village churches.

🌿 Cream Teas in St Elwyn’s Church Garden

There’s nothing quite like a Cornish summer afternoon with scones, jam, and friendly conversation and this August, St Elwyn’s Church Garden will be the perfect place to enjoy it.

Join us on Saturdays 1st, 8th, and 15th August from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm for our Cream Teas, served in the sunshine (or in the hall if the weather misbehaves!).

Everyone is welcome it’s a relaxed, inclusive space where you can unwind, feel at home, and share good company with neighbours and friends.

And here’s a little extra treat for our local community: Godrevy Benefice residents receive a 40% discount (on a cream tea).

Copperhouse Community Café, Hayle is a friendly volunteer-run café that provides an affordable place for people to meet, enjoy refreshments and combat social isolation. It welcomes everyone, regardless of age or background, and has become an important community hub for local residents.

Come As You Are – Family Fun Service at Gwithian Church

Everyone is welcome at Gwithian Church’s “Come As You Are” family service, a relaxed and informal gathering designed for all ages. Held on the third Sunday of each month, the morning begins at 10.30am with a free breakfast, giving families, friends and visitors the chance to enjoy good food and conversation together before worship begins.

The service features a short, interactive themed worship session, followed by creative craft activities, making it particularly enjoyable for children while remaining engaging for adults. Afterwards, there is time to stay for refreshments and fellowship in the church’s warm and welcoming atmosphere.

There is no need to book—simply come along as you are and join in. Whether you’re a regular churchgoer, exploring faith, or simply looking for a friendly community gathering, everyone is invited to share in this relaxed and inclusive morning.

St Elwyns Lunchtime Concerts – Every Thursday from 12.30 pm to 1.15 pm, talented local and visiting musicians perform a varied programme, from piano recitals and vocal performances to string ensembles, flute, recorders and choir concerts. Admission is free, and everyone is warmly welcome. Whether you’re a regular concertgoer, looking for a peaceful lunch break, or simply curious to experience live music in a stunning historic setting, you’ll find a warm welcome waiting for you. While entry is free, voluntary donations are gratefully received and go towards the upkeep and preservation of this wonderful church, ensuring it continues to serve both the community and future generations. St Elwyn’s Hosts Spectacular August Concert Series
ST ELWYN’S Music lovers are in for a treat this August as St Elwyn’s hosts a magnificent month-long summer concert series. Offering an eclectic mix of instrumental mastery, exquisite vocals, and cross-Atlantic collaborations, the weekly events promise to be a cultural highlight for the community.

The series launches on Saturday, 8th August at 7pm with ‘Pamela and Friends’. Led by Pamela Rosenfeld, an exceptional ensemble featuring Jakki Kerensa, Sally Pearson, Katrina Geraghty, Irmtrud Agnoli, and Rico Gerber will perform masterpieces spanning the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras.

On 15th August at 7pm, the theme shifts to nature with ‘A Celebration of rural England’s leafy ways and Seascapes’. Sopranos Helen Maguire and Annette Zorab, alto Lucy Clitherow, and accompanist Rico Gerber will perform solos, duets, and trios by Handel, Purcell, and Eric Thiman.

Dramatic vocal traditions take center stage on 22nd August at 7pm for ‘Opera at St Elwyn’s!’. This powerful showcase features a formidable trio of singers—soprano Simone Hellier, mezzo-soprano Shirley Tyack, and bass Clive Brown—accompanied by Rico Gerber on piano.

Concluding the memorable month on 29th August at 7pm is ‘An Evening of piano and Classical Guitar’, pairing the talents of guitarist Harris Becker and pianist Hayley Savage for a beautiful program shared by friends from either side of the Atlantic.

Admission to all four concerts is entirely free of charge. While there is no ticket cost, voluntary donations to support the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the historic church are warmly welcomed. Be sure to arrive early to secure your seat!

A widow, travelling alone through a snowstorm in northern Minnesota, finds herself in a race against time when she accidentally interrupts the kidnapping of a teenage girl in this US action thriller.

FARMERS’ MARKET

Every Saturday in the Methodist Hall from 10.00am – Noon. Typical week would include: Fresh local vegetables, free range eggs, locally produced organic beef, pork, sausages and bacon, artisan bread, honey, home-made quiches, flowers, cards and craft. Every week a different village organisation supplies the refreshments. Tea or coffee only 50p. Cakes normally 50p to £1. All welcome.

ST ERTH VILLAGE SHOP & POST OFFICE

Post Office Counter hours: Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm; Sunday noon to 8pm. This provides an opportunity up to 8pm every night, to use your bank account to take out or pay in cash. Also, to pay in cheques to all the major banks. Plus, the usual facilities to obtain stamps, post letters and parcels, obtain currency at competitive rates etc. The shop will be open every day, including Sundays, for groceries from 8am until 8pm. Please support the proprietor Namesh, so that the village will continue to enjoy having the benefits of the shop and Post Office. A still life arrangement may be set up, but everyone is encouraged to ‘do their own thing’

EXERCISE FOR THE OVER 50’S
A regular exercise class takes place every Monday in St Erth Church Hall (Old School) from 10am to 11am and 11am to 12pm and Friday Morning 8am to 9am and 10am to 11am.

It is ideal for community activities, private parties, wedding receptions etc.
The hall has a large drop-down screen and a projector, plus black-out curtains installed for the St Erth Film Club. These can be used for an additional cost for parties or corporate events.
